The Roswell Episode...

The making of this episode of Road Show has been so freaking' bizzare if I didn't believe in Aliens before I can certainly see there input in this situation.

Rewind a couple of weeks. We had just recently arrived here and I had alredy met up with some of my new biker buddies. We had only been in town a few days and they invited me out to the major boonies. I Googled the address they gave me and thought I had everything wrapped up. But out here in the high desert maps and reality seem to have little correlation outside of the major metro areas.

Long story short hereI ended up being lost, at night in the desert. Even though I was nowhere near Roswell at the time I can easily see why people see things out here. It is WILD!

Ok back to the present....

The fourth of July was coming up and with it the Roswell UFO festival. Since our downsizing from a 3 bedroom house with three car garage to 750 square foot pad with micro porch we have had doggie-hosting issues. Since the house we left also had a big back yard we would just leave the doggie door open and she was good for a night or two. Now she has to be taken out manually everytime. Possible solution turn her into a motorcycle dog!

Here Tuesday aka Motorcyle Dog is Ready for her first test run

A quick run down to Einsteins Bagels and a little dog friendly public hanging go so well I, yes believe it our not, dog skeptic me, says "oh, she will be fine let's just take her to Roswell.

NOT!

What my brilliant mind failed to compute was that a trip down to the local market DOES NOT equate to a hardcore slab-ride. It is astounding how aggressive the semi-trucks are on 70 going through Albuquerque. Actually it is amazing how aggresive all cage drivers are around here. Unfortunately a great percentage of them drive aggressively, but not well. Shoulder checking and rear-view mirror using seem to be against the rules. Fortunately we had only gone 23 miles so turning around and dropping off the Wrench Wench and the pup. Then I turned around and started over.

Fast forward to Roswell....

During the UFO festival at least most of the action takes place on Main St. from Second Ave to the South running to about Fifth Ave to the north. There were also some events being run from the Civic Center and the Military Insitute about 9 blocks North. Some may call that walking distance, but me, Nah!

Alas that, like many other details of the story are beyond the scope of this blog and must wait for the next issue of Road Show Magazine.

Here are the things which are specific to the podcast.

An interview with one of the proprietors of Planet Roswell who gave us a great interview and recommended reading.

Highlights from a conversation with the proprietor of Earth Station Roswell.

A bit of fun and a bit of terror from the road...

Please see the accompanying slide show, directly to the right for a kind of random sampling of the last couple of days of photography.

Heads Up From Cartoon Thunder's Rupert Piston

Cartoonist Rupert Piston sent us an alarming article by Mark Simon from the Animation World News which should be of concern to anyone who creates intellectual property. Actually it should be of concern to anyone who is concerned with the workings of government.

This issues here are complicated, but as I understand it the guts of it are as follows.

In its current state US copyright law states that the creator of a work owns the copyright to that work the moment it is created. Registration with the copyright office is merely a formality that helps prove the origin of the work should there be a dispute.

The proposed change would take away that automatic right of ownership and rewrite the law so that a copyright could only be claimed through registration, which is pricey, or the work could be declared "0rphan" and anyone could register it. Obviously this favors wealthy corporate entities, not artists. I believe that is a fairly accurate telling of the guts of it. For the whole scoop read the Mark Simon article linked below.

Rupert Piston sent in this article regarding important legislation in copyright law.

Beemerman shares another chapter from "The High Slab and the Holy Groove"

Hi. Welcome to the Rusty site. We will be updating often as we are a very actice group. All our events are open to all riders - we welcome new and young riders. Our events are not easy but the large numbers of riders who return year after year show they are worthwhile. We would love to see you on a ride soon. Thanks for dropping by. RideSafe. The Rusty's

Order your RNMC Grand Challenge DVD The Rusty Nuts Motorcycle Club bring you some of the best known events in the New Zealand motorcycle calandar. We run "The Grand Challenge" a 1000 mile (1609km) 24 hour event every October. The 21th of these has just be completed.  We produced a DVD of the 20th Annivesary event to give an insight into the event. Also the "Southern Cross Road Rally" a six or seven day event travelling to the four extremities of New Zealand accessable by road. We also organise other tour type events, the common thread through all the events is the "challenging" aspect. They all provide something more difficult than other rallies, either the distance, the accessability, or the time factors allowed. From time to time we also do "Specials" such as the "Wild One Rally", a one off event held at the Bridge to Nowhere before the "Non-existent road" was closed and the area was absorbed into the Whanganui National Park in 1992.

Lee (Boss) Rusty.  He lives in Auckland, NZ. The "Original Rusty Nut". Was founder member of the fore runner club the "Bootburners", and the first of the "Rusty's" to complete a 1000mile 24/hour run. Just to see if it could be done. It could, as many others have proved since.Lee rides a Honda CBX750 Sidecar outfit. He spends a lot of time training new riders with the RideSafe Motorcycle school. He is organiser of most of the RNMC events. He demands a high standard of behaviour from people taking part in events and can be harsh if upset. Although he cares deeply and worries incessantly when his "family" are out on the road. He relaxes only when the last one arrives home on each event. Growing old before his time. Really a nice guy if a little gruff. He  has a hobby of restoring to usable condition old motorscooters. He is always on the look out for them, if you know of anything he would be pleased if you would let him know.  Currently working on an NZeta, and a Durkopp.
