This Week-We Open the Vault

Beemerman has good reason to be proud this week.  The photo featured in this blog not only got a half-page spread in Friction Zone magazine, but was also one of four voted by members of pashnit.com to be featured in their 2007 motorcycle calendar.

So it seemed appropriate to pull out a couple of unused clips from previous interviews related to photography.

Kate Edwards, editor of Friction Zone magazine www.friction-zone.com talks about the unique challenges of taking great photos of roads.  Also, Shawn King of the wildly popular "Your Bike Life" www.yourbikelife.com  podcast talks about ridding the world of bad graphics.

Harley Dude was indisposed this week so the Wrench Wench did a fine job of filling in for him.  Plus next week she will be bringing you an EXTRAORDINARY interview.  Be sure to tune in for that.

We had some very interesting odd news

Beemerman read an essay entitled..."The Kill Zone" he wrote about a recent freeway ride.

This Week-Glen Heggstad, author of "Two Wheels Through Terror" which  chronicles his solo motorcycle ride from North America to the tip of South America.  Along the way he was captured by rebel soldiers and held captive in the most appalling conditions for six weeks.  His decision to continue the ride after such a horrifying experience inspired thousands.

Heggstad is also the author of the up-coming book "Reshuffling the Decke" which tells the tale of his ride across Siberia, Eastern Europe and Africa.  Instead of focusing on sprockets, tires and gas mileage he tells the story in pictures and words of the peoples of the world giving the book an appeal far beyond the motorcycle market.

I was forturnate enough this week to be invited to Mr. Heggstad's home and over pasta and green tea he told me his story.  The story is so compelling the crew at Road Show decided to forego our regular format and play the entire hour.

Listen it will change your life.

This Week-Michael Ferenci joins us for a special music episode.

Harley Dude and Beemerman discuss the news, sort of.

A special musical presentation.

-----------------------------

Studio guitarist and composer Michael Ferenci joined us this week by phone from his studio in Los Angeles, Ca.  Ferenci has been a fixture in the studios and sound stages of  The City of Angels.  He has played on countless albums and film scores including sessions with Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Walt Disney, corp., and other luminaries.  His composition credits are also extensive including major motion pictures, television and cartoons.  We were fortunate enough to visit Ferenci Music and have Michael play guitar and bass on our new theme,  "Beemer Babe Blues" which was composed by Beemerman.

For more information visit his website at:  www.ferencimusic.com

We play the theme all the way through this week for your enjoyment.

Also, as we discussed last week the Highway 33 theme has been completed and we play that through in its entirety as well.

We really hope you enjoy the music and would welcome your comments.

This Week-Grant Johnson of Horizons Unlimited joins us from the UK.

www.horizonsunlimited.com

The offbeat news with Beemerman

Torque Wench with an essay from the Pillion Position

Astute observations from our resident philosopher/poet...Harley Dude

--------
(technical note) Unfortunately this weeks interview is marred by a buzz in the recording caused by a broked shield in the phone recording equipment.  We apologize for this lapse in production values, but since the interview was SO compelling we released it as is.  The audio is still clear, but the buzz was so broad across the audio spectrum we were unable to remove it even with all the digital magic at our disposal.

----------------

Since 1984 Grant and Susan Johnson have ridden their custom built BMW in 39 countries and logged over 100,000 kilometers. The story of their bike, which they fondly refer to as The Beemerbago, is worthy of an article, in and of itself. When initially planning their adventure Grant was looking for an inexpensive but tough and reliable ride. As fortune would have it he was able to purchase a new 1985 BMW R80GS which had fallen off a truck in its crate  for a cheap price. The frame was bent but since he planned on replacing it with something stronger anyway that was not a problem. Over the past 14 years, besides their travels, they have created a vast website, produced a popular how-to DVD and host travelers meetings around the world on a regular basis. The website started as a collection of letters home from the Johnson's first trip around the world While in Argentina, waiting for a ship to take them to Antarctica, the Johnson's collected the e-mails they had sent to friends and family during their travels and uploaded them to the, then fledgling, Internet. Soon after, "people found it and started asking us questions. A lot of people wanted to know about world-travel stuff, so we added the newsletter and then the bulleting board and it just exploded from there." says Johnson. With over 500,000 user sessions per month, Horizons Unlimited, along with the popular travelers meetings which are held throughout the world spreading the gospel of do-it-yourself world travel, have become a full-time job for Mr. Johnson.

-------------
Some of you may have noticed the new theme music for the show.
The Beemerbabe Blues was composed by Beemerman and we would like to thank Los Angeles studio musician and composer Michael Ferenci for sitting in on guitar and bass and engineering for us.!

This week...Live with Pashnit.com

The Wrench Wench opens her toolbox

More astute observations from Harley Dude.

----------------------------------

This week we had the opportunity to meet up with Tim Mayhew and the Pashnit.com tour group on their last trip of the season.  Beemerman and Wrench Wench rode with them along Highway 33 and conducted an interview with Tim and some of the other riders atop Pine Mountain.
We got some great pix and even a little video.

Also this week we introduce Roadsongs.  According to Tim Mayhew each road should have a theme so why not a song as well.  So, we bring you a brand new composition by Beemerman...The Highway 33 Theme.  Listen for it throughout the show and then for a bit playing out at the end.

Be sure to visit our website at www.highslab.com for the whole scoop.

Also be sure to check out Tim's website www.pashnit.com for the best information on California roads available anywhere on the internet.
